Newton: After Effects Physics Engine

So the ‘new’ Newton engine by Motion Boutique has been out for a little while now and it has come to my attention that a lot of people have no clue what it is! Why, Newton is a physics engine for After Effects! Simple as that, it allows you to simulate physics in After Effects, whether it’s bouncing a ball, objects falling, or things shattering into pieces due to force.

Features:

  • Robust and fast
  • Simple and intuitive user interface with OpenGL preview
  • Gravity, collisions, friction, etc.
  • Support of masks and shapes
  • Handles different sorts of bodies: static, dynamic, kinematic, etc.

“Simple to use and fast to execute, Newton is the must-have animation plug-in. Newton interprets each 2D layer as a rigid body in a real environment. Once simulation is completed, animation is recreated in After Effects with standard keyframes.” – Motion Boutique

Let me stress the word ‘robust’ and ‘fast’. Newton is extremely fast and easy to use to simulate such complicated physics and has a ton of potential. Here are some tests already done by a few people:
