Corridor Digital’s Laser Effect Using Trapcode Form

Sam from Corridor Digital contacted me through Twitter and Email and we were discussing about Trapcode Form and how he was going to implement it into his upcoming video as a visual fx rather than motion graphics. A few days after the launch of their video, I was contacted and requested by many people to do a video tutorial over the ‘laser’ effect they used. The flood of demand was probably due to the fact that Corridor Digital mentioned my channel for Trapcode Form tutorials in the Annotations! Well everyone, I present to you the rough and basic tutorial on how to achieve this rather simple laser effect.

  1. Great! Dubstep Guns was awesome and cool that Corridor Digital actually contacted you and put your link in the making of it! It was so awesome how the lasers moved to the music. Thanks for this and as always keep up the great work!

Thanks for not only this tutorial, but all of your tutorials. It’s very helpful and can help me do things I otherwise would have never known how to do.

One request though, would you ever consider doing a tutorial for something like the computer screens in the movie Minority Report? That would be awesome. Thanks again

Thanks for leaving a feedback comment, it’s greatly appreciated as I’m trying to get this site up and running! I will look into the effect and perhaps do a tutorial on it, thanks for your support!

You don’t download it, you make it.

Hey thanks for all the tutorials. I am created a commercial that involves similar effects. Where can I download this program and the plugins?

    • VinhSon Nguyen

Hello, the effects are done in Adobe After Effects, which is an expensive industry standard application which you can get at Adobe.com for approx $999 USD. Trapcode Form you can get at RedGiantSoftware.

Awesome tutorial! How would you give the effect of the lasers going through a person?

    • VinhSon Nguyen

Thanks! Unfortunately, probably just masking the lasers out when it hits the person and manual keyframing.

  7. Awesome tutorial, but hopefully you can help with the next step.
Are there any good tutorials explaining how to match up a 3d layer with a motion tracker? I’m trying to get my laser comp to follow the gun barrel, and I cannot for the life of me find any tutorials explaining how to do this once the motion track is complete.
Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.
