Easy Solutions to Centering Text & Changing Timeline Formats

I get asked the same questions frequently on basic issues regarding text centering and the timeline format, well no more! Today, we will be taking a look at two simple solutions to fix two simple problems. If you’re experienced with After Effects, this tutorial will be close to useless.

The first issue is centering text, a lot of people seem to not know how to center text in After Effects. Whenever they create their text, everything is left aligned and not centered. The main issue is people mislook the Paragraph panel where the text alignment can be controlled. If you don’t see the Paragraph panel, go up to Window and make sure Paragraph is checked and selected.

The second issue is the timeline format. Some people prefer to see things in frames while others like to see things in time increments such as seconds or minutes. Whatever your case may be, you can simple change the format of the timeline by holding CTRL or COMMAND and clicking on the ‘Current Time’. Keep clicking to switch through the various formats until you find one you like.

Hopefully this video will answer some of your questions and will save me time from typing the same responses. If this tutorial helped you, share your feedback down below!

  1. Excellent tip! I did shoot myself in the foot! lol. Is there any way of auto aligning the text vertically and horizontally like in Photoshop or is it all done with the Title/action safe?
